Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2008 R2 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2008 R2 fix release.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

You have a table in a Microsoft SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2008 R2 database.
The table has many rows. For example, the table has 2.5 billion rows.
A partition scheme is defined in this database.
You rebuild an index online on the partition scheme.

In this scenario, you receive the following error message:

Msg 666, Level 16, State 2, Line <LineID>

The maximum system-generated unique value for a duplicate group was exceeded for index with partition ID <partition ID>. Dropping and re-creating the index may resolve this; otherwise, use another clustering key.
