How does boxing work at the Paris 2024 Olympics?
There are 13 different weight categories at the Paris 2024 Olympics, seven men's and six women's.
Men's categories: 51kg, 57kg, 63.5kg, 71kg, 80kg, 92kg and +92kg
Women's categories: 50kg, 54kg, 57kg, 60kg, 66kg and 75kg
Each weight category will begin with a preliminary round of 32, with the victor progressing to the last 16 and so on.
Every fight at the 33rd summer Games will be three rounds and will last for three minutes.
Each round will be judged by five judges, with each giving both fighters a score out of 10.
After the bout concludes, each judge adds up the round scores to determine a winner.
The winner of the fight progresses to the next round, while the loser is eliminated from the Games entirely.
Here are all the possible decisions for a win in Olympic boxing:
- ABD - abandon
- BDSQ - double disqualification
- DKO - double knockout
- DSQ - disqualification
- KO - knockout
- RSC - referee stops contest
- RSC-I - referee stops contest - injury
- WO - walkover
- WP - win on points
The gold medal is awarded to the winner of the final, the silver will go to the loser of the final, and both losing semi-finalists will claim bronze.
